Assumptions
Skiing towards La Dole in the Jura above Geneva
Until recently, my view of skiing in the Alps was that it is steep, crowded, and limited—unless you have local knowledge of the terrain, snow, and avalanche.
What’s closer to the truth is that resorts high enough for reliable snow are often steep, crowded, and offer limited on-piste skiing. What’s also true is that many ski areas located a bit lower provide delightful, low-key, easier-to-ski trails. Now that I’ve skied at some of these resorts, I realize my opinion assumed that my experience at certain resorts applied to all resorts in the Alps.
Assuming that something true occasionally is true all the time can trap us in Big Assumptions, limiting our options and hindering our efforts to make changes that challenge those beliefs.
