Meet Steve Hindman
At 19, I had to go west. So, I abandoned college, got in my car, and drove from Western Pennsylvania to Colorado to become a ski bum. I spent that first winter in a mining shack above Telluride. When the snow melted, I backpacked through the American West, eventually emerging on the coast of Washington State, where a fisherman picked me up to be his crew.
Doing what I had to do worked, so I kept doing it. I fished in Alaska for five seasons, became deeply involved in skiing and ski instruction, and traveled nationally and internationally to train other instructors. I started a ski and outdoor shop, a cross-country ski area, and later expanded into guiding—leading sea kayaking trips, multi-day bike tours, and running a ski and snowboard school near Seattle, WA. I also directed a community nonprofit focused on life skills training in Bellingham, WA. I’ve shared my experiences on The Ski Instructor Podcast, reflecting on my my skiing journey through life, and being an American in Switzerland.
Through all these experiences, one thing remained clear—helping others connect with who they are and what they truly want has always been my passion.
When I started looking and listening for how to share the joy and wonder of being alive beyond outdoor adventures, I discovered coaching. Life coaching became the next step— a pivot from guiding individuals through new landscapes and adventures to guiding then through the uncertainties of identity shifts, reinvention, and personal transformation.
Now based in Geneva, Switzerland, I work with individuals and organizations worldwide, including the World Trade Organization (WTO), to provide coaching on retirement and life transitions. Helping others navigate what can feel like the most disorienting, yet also the most profound, phase of life.
Why I Do This Work
Life transitions—retirement, reinvention, aging—are as profound as becoming an adult, having a child, or losing a loved one. Yet, our society doesn’t prepare us for them. We’re left to figure it out alone.
I offer trust, experience, and support to help normalize these moments. I guide people through the discomfort of uncertainty so they can step fully into what’s next. This is your time—not to do what others expect but to redefine your life on your own terms.
