Not Knowing
An American In Switzerland
Welcome back to an ongoing series of weekly reflections on the tiny shifts that change everything
Summer’s over, fall hasn’t started, and the hint of winter is in the air. Everything feels like it’s on hold, including me. I started the week excited to get back to working with my current clients, creating new ones, and planning for the upcoming season, yet as I dug into that, I realized I didn’t really know where to go or what to do next beyond what was already on my calendar
Keeping busy to avoid that reality, I’ve been doing tasks and chores, checking in with myself about what I want to do next, surfing the web to see what others are doing, re-establishing workout routines, and even returning to meditation after months away.
Not a bad way to spend time when I’m not sure what else to do, but being honest with myself, what I’ve been doing is whatever I can think of to control and to direct what happens next.
Accepting I don’t know what to do has allowed another option to surface: letting go and staying open to what comes up by allowing myself not to know.
